In a word … Yes. Microsoft stopped supporting Windows 7 on the 14th January 2020. This means any computer running Windows 7 will be vulnerable to malicious attacks.

Not all computers will be able to run Windows 10 though. So you need to check to see if your system meets the minimum specifications required.

I can help with an initial assessment, and then an upgrade, including full system image backups, installation of antivirus and malware protection and a cleanup of your device. Note I won’t be forcing you to buy Windows 10 from Microsoft at £120. So long as you have a valid windows 7 licence, you should be able to upgrade for free.*

If you device won’t support Windows 10 you should think about buying a new device. I can recommend some options for you within your price range – whatever that may be!

*I typically charge between £20 and £50 to upgrade to Windows 10

Yes I can. There are a few checks I can do for you to see if this is a startup issue, or something else more general – for instance a memory issue. If it’s slow startup, there are 3 or 4 things that I can check or alter to speed things up for you. This should only take about half an hour to run though. Better still: if this is all you want done, I’ll only charge you £5 if you’re in Greystoke, Johnby, Berrier or Motherby!

Yes! I’m happy to give an initial assessment over the phone. But it’s much more effective to see what’s happening on your screen, so I would arrange a home visit.

I’m based in Greystoke, but support the wider community, covering the parishes of Matterdale, Watermillock, Patterdale, Greystoke, Penruddock and Mungrisdale. I’m very happy to consider work outwith those areas, but charges will include travel time to cover costs.

No, I’m not in the business of taking PCs apart and fitting new motherboards. You should consult a specialist computer repairer for this!

This is ‘GDPR’ and everyone’s rushing to be compliant so they avoid fines in May 2018. I wrote an article in my news blog about this at the time, and you can read more about it here
